Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Finally....

Tomorrow AM is my first consultation with a nutrionist. I only made this appointment five weeks ago. The timing is perfect, since I have a lot of travel related questions. And perhaps get a good bread recipe.

Magnum won the battle tonight in the "War of the Window Perch". He's happily snoring. Adira got so happy to get her "treat" that she chased one of her mice around for a while. Quite unusual - most of the time she just chews their tail off and leaves the rest.

I need to figure out how to get photos on here so that you can meet my furballs...

Follow-up...

I got a call about a half hour ago from someone in the Molecular and Cellular Biology department (the exact opposite location from where we're located). I still didn't get an answer as to how their purchasing person put my name and address on the "ship to", but someone will be by tomorrow morning to pick up the boxes.

*scratches head*

One aggravation down, only to have a new one appear. I've been trying for a MONTH to process a subcontract with a collaborator in New Jersey. First our projects department goes over it, then sends it back for their approval. After hounding the projects department in New Jersey for three weeks with no answers, I asked the collaborator to bug them as well with no answer for a week. Finally today, I get an e-mail saying the budgets on pages 1 and 12 don't match up! How can someone screw something up like that!?!?!? So I sent the subcontract back to our projects department, and will have to follow up in the AM to make sure it gets fixed ASAP.

*pulls hair out of head* None of this is in my control - I just have the boss screaming at me twice a week to get the subcontract going...*sigh*

Almost the end of the day...

And I'm thankful. From just before 3:00 AM, I didn't sleep well followed by fits of sneezing. I'm allergic to mold, and wonder if the rains we got this weekend could be the reason. I know that I said it doesn't rain until July - it normally DOESN'T! That's what I get for opening my big mouth.

According to my cousin's kid, the Suns will not win tomorrow night. If he's right, he predicted the entire NBA playoff series (to the game). I don't think my cousin would approve of him being a sport bettor though.

Well, it'll probably be an early bedtime tonight since I'm already exhausted. Here's hoping I sleep better tonight...

Who screwed this one up????

When I came into the lab Monday, I saw that a delivery had been brought to our lab (most likely Thursday), but left in its boxes. While that normally annoys me that everyone is too busy to put away supplies, this time I'm glad they were.

There were four boxes of a brand of glove we normally do NOT use, and they were all the same size, which is NOT normal. (We usually buy one case at a time of a size.) So I look at the invoice to make sure that they weren't delivered to the wrong place. Sure enough, my name and address is on the "ship to" area.

First of all, I'm annoyed because I know I did not place this order. Second, I need to make sure that one of our grants isn't paying for it. So I try and look up the purchase order, and getting nothing (it isn't a standard format anyway). Since our office staff isn't in today, I had to take it up with the main purchasing department. She told me that some other institution probably ordered and paid for it, but somehow got shipped to me!

Too bad we can't use this item (and definately not four cases of them). I'm looking forward to hearing how this got all screwed up!

Sounds like a good time to scrounge some lunch....

Who thought up that idea?!?!

How funny. Here I thought I was a decent law-abiding citizen. Well, according to DumbLaws.com, I'm breaking the law in Tucson by wearing pants! Maybe someday they'll repeal that law.

Okay, got my laugh in, must go to work...

The "friendlier" face of POTUS

I'm watching the new monthly press conferences that the President is giving. He still sounds uncertain, stammers, and uses "um" too much. I'm not a public speaker myself, but how could people give their vote for someone that can't clear express his issues publicly.

His saying that Iraq is doing much better than it really seems to be is maddening. Sure, there's an elected government (that is being eliminated one by one). Their inability to control the insurgency, let alone even begin the constitution writing.

However, there is one bit of optimistic news: A majority of U.S. population believes in intelligent life outside this planet.
