Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

University shutdown shouldn't include the servers

Gotta love the University's policy. Let's save a few bucks in energy costs by having a voluntary shutdown.

Yes, technially I should be at work today. Monday and Tuesday are paid holidays, as well as January 2nd. But nobody else would come in while I was sitting on my thumbs trying to look busy. I can't get stuff from the clinics because the nurses are taking the week off. The cleaning is done, so I might as well sit and surf the web from the comforts of my parents house.

But I just realized that my Mail program hasn't reminded me that I have new mail today. Very strange. So I pull up the hidden program. Offline.

Weird - I'm surfing the net just fine. So I tell it to go online and get newmail. Nothing happens.

Okay, I try and use the WebMail. I get a bad domain name error.

Bingo.

Hopefully someone figured out by now that the University email server is down and has paged someone to go and fix it. But I've been online for a half hour with no luck so far.

I guess the memo should have been more specific in that people can take the time off between Christmas and New Years, but the servers can't.

Which is why I'll miss my old system a lot more. At least I had a backup.
