Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Just another Thursday

You gotta love vendor reps (sometimes). This AM, Roche had a little "Thank you" party in our lounge area. Iced Starbucks drinks were for the taking, cookies, and a fruit and cheese tray. Can't eat the cookies, and the fruit was less than appealing, but at least I grabbed the last Mocha.

They were also giving away free pedometers. I was always curious as to how many steps I walk in an average day. Although the buildings next to the hospital are connected, it seems like it can take more steps than directly walking outside. I guess I'll find out!

I've spent this week working with the new students. The grad student is so nice. She's on my tail to help her get things done - it's very refreshing. The summer student is also nice. She has a grad student mentor, so I'm not going to work with her as much. Should be a productive summer....

...as long as the cultures can stay clean! The mold has been a BIG problem this year. I blame the spring problems with the excess rain producing mold. But then I think it got into the vents (thanks to the fresh air intakes), and now we can't get rid of it easily. I have been trying to get environmental health to come and do a survey with no luck so far. In the meanwhile, we are still losing experiments due to one dish going moldy (but not its neighbor). I'm so close to tearing my hair out to try and figure out what to do.

The scary thing is that we began adding Amphotercin-B. The first couple of months we had success. Then it began to appear again. I hope it's not resistant. Won't know until I can get a survey done.
