Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Taking some things for granted

Last night I was trying to explain boyfriend the significance of possible relationship of 1918 flu coming from birds. (The current bird flu is being referred to a H5N1 which refers to the two proteins on its surface.)

Then I tried to explain why the chance of H5N1 causing global pandemic is in large part due to the flu virus carrying RNA as its genome instead of DNA.

But his response was "what's the difference?" After I picked my jaw off the floor, I typed up a basic explanation of their differences. Studying DNA and RNA was one the first biology lessons that I learned. I was so fascinated by these processes, it cemented my interest into science.

I had assumed that DNA and RNA was a basic biology fact.

I think I gave him the basic biology lesson of DNA and RNA. But he was tired, so I might have to repeat the lesson tonight.

UPDATE: Ducks in Romania have turned up positive for bird flu. Ducks in other countries have shown to be asympotmatic carriers.

So what if your football team sucks

Courtsey Sports Illustrated. I guess the Bengals figured if the team couldn't draw in the crowds, the cheerleaders might. Heck, I'd even go to see topless cheerleaders, but I think I'm in the minority of women here.

Yes, I'm really sure she's got a top on, but from this picture it's hard to tell....
