Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Monday's protest

Yes, I know the picture's gone....the webserver hosting it finally bit the dust - will look for a new home

So how did today's protest affect me? Well, traffic seemed a bit easier on the drive in - the drive home is the big test of traffic.

Still was able to get a cup of coffee at the coffee stand this morning.

Got a sandwich today for lunch at the cafeteria. Didn't recognize any of the staff. But the sandwich maker I got understood the "gluten-free" bread concept - so he gets kudos points (even if he didn't know what was supposed to be in the sandwich I ordered).

Register lines were a bit longer than usual because three of the four registers were operating today. Still got through pretty quickly.

In short, basic services at the hospital were still functioning. I was still able to get coffee and food. And we managed without immigrants.

So, take tomorrow off while you're at it. And the next...

*twitch*

I almost forgot - reading someone's thoughts on MSM selling bad news made me think of it.

During last night's episode of "Desperate Housewives", I saw a commercial for a "TV movie of the week" called "Bird Flu in America". Basically your worst case scenario if bird flu became person to person transmitted and the breakdown of society as we know it.

We've survived a major pandemic before, and we will again. Wether or not I live to see it remains to be seen.

I hate the major news networks fanning the paranoia of worst case scenarios. Sure, it'll get some people to watch. But then if the pandemic comes, it won't change the way we behave. So why increase the paranoia of some people by showing such garbage?

Perhaps this is why I only watch "24" on a regular basis and otherwise stay away from network TV....

just tearing my hair out

This weekend the celiac support group had an information table at the county fair. Actually, it had been there for a week, but this was my weekend to sit there and answer questions.

A fellow celiac person made a good suggestion - list gluten-free foods available at the fair. We weren't sure. Since I've been having control problems here and there, I try to go with known safe things such as roasted corn, coffee, etc.

When I was finishing up my Saturday shift, someone brought over some kettle corn. I know that the kettle corn made by ConAgra foods is listed as gluten-free. And nothing tastes as good a fair kettle corn. So I had some.

bad idea....

I picked up a taco salad at Wendy's on the way home (listed as a gluten-free product). Ate that and went to bed. Sunday I woke up just miserable. I didn't do anything except shuffle to the bathroom and then back to bed. I was in a lot of stomach pain, allleviated by needs to go for gut cleansing.

At least the last shift Sunday ended earlier than was told. At least my skin is doing better with this new cream I got to reduce the lesions on the skin when I do have a slip-up. I had no breakouts this morning.

So I just have to get through this week somehow until my energy gets back. I'm hoping to find a cheap flight to San Diego, because I don't want to drive, but whatever happens happens.
