Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

voter crap

I've been looking for my paperwork on insurance and retirement account for a week now.

All I've gotten is stuff about various propositions. There are 19 on our ballot - a record tying number I overheard on the radio last night. I wish I could tell these idiots that I already voted, so it's a waste of volunteer time and money.

When I got up to Fountain Hills, the phone rang. My dad was the closest to the phone so I looked to him. He looked at the caller ID and said under his breath "probably another voter something call". No message left, so we resumed the business of unloading and trying to coax the fluffball from under the seat.

The next call was my mom.

The next call was from San Diego, so I let it go to the machine. This was a political "vote for X to be state treasurer".

"Why is someone from San Diego calling about Arizona politics?" was the only thought I could conjure.

This is why I only have a cell phone.

move day (number 1)

Okay, today isn't really the first day of moving. I had been bringing up carloads of stuff all month. But today was the first day I started packing everything. And today was moving day for the kitties.

Bedroom's cleaned out except for some clothes and shoes in the closet. And the monster bed.

I went to the diabetes walk to wish everyone in the lab the best. That was a bit sad.

But that prevented me from getting an early start on loading the truck. So I slowly but surely loaded the truck and threw away more stuff.

Then it was time for the cat food, water, and litter. Done.

Put my purse and water in the truck. Done.

Okay, time to get the cats. Magnum was doing a major snooze on the bed, so it was an easy grab. Placed him in the back of the truck, and hope he won't quickly figure out how to bolt out when I have to reopen the door. Adira was hiding behind the couch, and came when I called her. Grab. Now it's time to leave.

Adira wedged herself under the truck seat. Magnum came to the front, and parked himself under my legs, basically trapping Adira under the seat. So I managed to get Magnum onto my lap, He liked that a lot, and stayed there until I pulled into the driveway.

So Magnum got inside first. He slinked under the bed. I couldn't get Adira from under the seat. I wish I could have taken a picture of this poor pitiful creature quietly meowing every now and then.

Made a run to Target and the natural foods store. Thought maybe it'd get Adira to come out. I even put her treats on the floormat while in the natural foods store.

No dice.

Pulled in the driveway again. Still have a kitty under the seat. Rolled the windows down and hoped for the best. Checked on her every now and then. After my third check, I'm starting to wonder how hard it'd be to unbolt the seat.

Fourth check. She's under the brake pedal.

Score. Snagged her and brought her inside. Slunk around low to the ground a few minutes and finally went under the bed.

Good news is that there's no hissing or growling. So they're cohabitating under the bed in shared suffering.

Magnum did make a brief visit ouside. Convinced the dog to make an introduction. Magnum wasn't sure what to do at first, but started to go to Defcon 4. Dog walked away. Magnum quickly went back to Defcon 1 and retreated under the bed.

Setup their litterbox in my closet. Hopefully the familar sound of the litterbox cycle was a small comfort to them. I'll know if they use it.

And I'm going back tomorrow to get more stuff so hopefully all that'll be left is the couch and bed on Monday for my folks. Not that I'm looking forward to it. I miss not having cruise control.
