Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Surprise surprise

I had a really good appointment with the allergist - even if it took all afternoon. He sat there and listened to all my whining, then gave me his first impression. That was followed up by testing, then conclusion.

First, he thought that my breakouts weren't related to the celiac - which I was beginning to suspect as well. But he ordered food allergy testing along with the standard fare.

Allergy testing round one - the basic skin prick test for the basic allergens and the food allergens as well. I think it was around 60 pricks in my back.

No reactions. So we repeat the basic allergens with a skin injection. That was 48 needle pricks and injections. I have some seriously nasty bruises from that. And that was done in the arms, so it's long sleeve shirts for a while.

No reaction to some of the things that used to bother me (like cats) *yeah* I'm not allergic to cats anymore! And the pollens were a mild reaction. So no more allergy shots!!!

"So why is my nose a running faucet with post-nasal drip?" I had to ask.

It's more environmental triggers setting off an autonomic nervous response to gum up the works basically. Doubtful it's because of the power plant sending pulses in my brain, but he didn't want to rule it out completely.

And since the food allergy tests were negative, he thinks it's another skin condition thing that a dermatologist should keep an eye on if it gets worse. But he gave me some guidelines of things to do to try and prevent another episode.

So I was sent home with a grocery bag full of goodies. Samples for the nose problem, the eye problem, and the skin problem. Don't you love doctor's samples?
