Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

low point

This has just been a pretty crappy week, and wanted to refrain from blogging about it until I can't hold it in anymore.

Let's see. For starters, I didn't get the job I interviewed for. The first company that called me was a recruiter/placing agency, and they called/contacted me today for a NIH job. The NIH person also contacted me about this job. So I replied to the NIH with the information they asked for, and will return the phone calls tomorrow morning. I still feel as if I'm signing up for another rejection.

The retail work is kicking my butt. My left foot hurts something fierce, and it's almost as if the bone on the top of the foot is rubbing on my sneakers. It's red and painful. Putting a foamy bandaid just made it worse. I finally took a break today to readjust my shoe.

Shoplifting is a big problem, and the manager's grumbling about how much he's writing off. But they're happy with my efforts to "do my best". The "regular" customers (mostly contractors) are being nice to me, and not treating me as "the new girl". And they see me as "not a cashier" which is very nice to break that sterotype.

My dad's cancer update. It's officially Stage 3 (not the greatest). The PET scan showed that the cancer hasn't spread except outside the esophagous. He went to chemo class today and got his first script for naseua medicine. He's schedule for a port to be put in early next week, and will start the chemo after that.

My mom called me at the store to tell me how it went with my dad at the doctor. She forgot to call me to say that after that she had to take my grandmother to the ER. While trying to call my grandmother after the appointment, she sounded all confused and finally admitted that "something wasn't right". So my mom dropped dad off at home, took gram to the hospital (same one as the PET scan). Spent a few hours in the ER. Then realized that my dad needed the insurance card for the chemo class. So mom comes back home to give dad the card, and pick up overnight stuff for gram (since it had been conceeded that she was staying the night at least). They're calling it a transient ischemic event (fancy term for mini-stroke that can't be explained).

Boyfriend was offered work (oh yeah, he's been fired from his job) but on the east coast. So he's not thinking of doing it, and going to school for four years instead. So there's a lot of financial stresses going on with him. He might get rehired by his company if they win a naval subcontract, but he's not sure if he should go back to school anyway. His indecision is driving me a bit nuts, but I'm trying to play the supportive girlfriend.

So, what's going on in your life?
