Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Guilty

If bugs ruled the world, I will be getting a subponea for this.

Adira was on a patio very similar to the one in the photo, when I saw her flipping around. She found something to bat at and catch. So I sat and watched her go after a big bug.

Then she finally caught it, and put it in her mouth. Then it disappeared.

Doesn't have a guilty looking face here does she?

Salmon discovery

A couple weekends ago, my Mom and I picked up a few packages of salmon filets on sale at a grocery store because they looked good. That was the first time I learned how to pick a good piece of salmon.

I finally got fed up with the fishy smell in my freezer, so I decided to do something with them. My Mom also sent me home with a cucumber dill powder that can be used for making dips and seasoning meats (their directions specificially said salmon). Aren't moms the greatest?

So I sprinkled the powder on the salmon filets and baked in the oven. It glazed nicely on top when it was cooked enough. So I thought it might be tasty.

To me, it was kinda blah. The part with the cucumber dill glaze on top was yummy. So my kitties got a lot of the middle portion that I could do without.

So I called my Mom and asked her what she thought of the salmon. She thought it was good, and asked what I thought was wrong with it. I explained and told her that the salmon strip that I also bought that was cajun seasoned was much better.

She asked "was it smoked?"

"I didn't see it on the package, but probably. The taste did remind me of smoked salmon I get at sushi places."

She laughed and informed me that I'm like my Dad. He doesn't like plain salmon either unless it gets a lot of help. But he likes smoked salmon.

But she's going to email me the recipe they used on their salmon that was a sugar rub wtih seasonings, and topped with prickly pepper jelly.

I'll have to give that a chance the next time good looking salmon is on sale.

So far, neither kitty has shown interest in their salmon offerings....
