Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Scream in fustration

I don't wether to laugh or cry.

We had a grant that ended a year and a half ago. We just got a letter from the department that handles grant money. It was a notification that the amount of money we had been awarded was $15,600+ less than originally planned for. Based on the names on the forms, it looks like we didn't spend said amount. So they were crediting us said amount.

Then because the account is dead, they gave the money back to the granting agency.

I already asked the obvious question - "Why did it take a year and half to find this out?"

I still haven't gotten a good answer.

My boss will have a small kitten when he finds out there was $15K + that could have been spent for the lab, but was given back to the agency.

Part of the problem was that the grad student must have put in the budget a certain amount to a company. Then when he left, didn't tell anyone that the money was there.

Just wish someone could have caught it. Things are going to start getting tight, and the supply money would have been nice.

Show trials

The events at Saddam Hussein's trial have gone from bad to worse. It shows the inability of this special court to handle the defendants. It seems every time there's an outburst, it gets shut down for a week and half.

Anyone care to wager who's trial will last longer - Saddam's or Slobo's? (For those of you keeping track, Milosevic's trial is pushing the four year mark.)

At the rate Milosevic's trial is going, he'll be dead before there's a ruling as to wether or not he's guilty. Wouldn't it be ironic if Milosevic dies before a ruling, and they rule "not guilty"? Years of court sessions, being held in jail would have all been for nothing.

Seriously, these tribunals, special courts, or whatever they're calling them are nothing but a show and a waste of money.

BTW: If the UN is trying Milosevic, are they paying the court costs? Where does that money really come from?

No hand-eye coordination here

Damn, I just knocked over my travel coffee cup on my desk. Fortunately, since it was my travel cup, only a half dozen or so drops landed on my desk.

That's the second time in about 36 hours that I did something that stupid. Saturday night, I was reaching for my cola can. Instead of grasping the can, I tipped it over. That made a bit more of a mess than the latest mishap.

I guess that even if I see the item in my side vision, I lack enough coordination to connect my hand to the item.

Or just call me a klutz.
