Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

So where does loyality get you in G.W.'s camp?

Sure, we all know how well our President treats those that stick by him through thick and thin. And what happens when you express a different opinion (Colin Powell anyone?)

Remember Katherine Harris? How about the Secretary of State of Florida in 2000 who was a very public figure on the ongoing hanging chad scandal? She's learning a hard lesson about what happens to people who bow to political pressure from their own party.

Not that I was on the Harris bandwagon in 2000, but I am hoping that she continues her part of the deal and runs for the Senate next year. It'll be more interesting to see if the Republicans will back down and support her, or push their own candidate. Too bad I don't live in Florida (not that I'd be able to vote in the Primary).

Save the Sea of Cortez

I just read a series of articles that made me very sad. Experts agree that the Sea of Cortez is an endangered habitat. I would hope that people can learn from others mistakes, such as how we almost depleted the buffalo almost 100 years ago.

I used to visit the Sea of Cortez in San Carlos (by Guaymas). The water was clear and warm (in the summer), and we'd see a diversity of fish. But even 5-6 years ago, I was painfully aware that the bigger creatures were no longer present. The dive leader I'd go with would tell stories of where he used to see hammerhead sharks, and other sharks as well. But it had been years since he saw one.

Although I can no longer dive, I still would not want to see the beautiful reefs and fish disappear. I am also painfully aware the Mexican government can do little to stop it. I don't know if this is something that the United Nations could take up in their charter, but it may take something that drastic to save this ecosystem.

Cruel irony

I think I mentioned that all the activities this week has had me run down exhausted. So I was hoping that last night I could begin to catch up. It was even better because I had to take care of something, and the business doesn't open until 9:00AM, so I could sleep in an extra hour or so.

So what happened? I got up when I normally do (around 6:30), went to the bathroom, and tried to get my normal routine started. Then I remembered that I could go back to bed and get some sleep. So I dragged myself to bed, only to get a few minutes of a "cat nap" here and there! I spent most of the time trying to get to sleep!!! But I do feel less drowsy then at 6:30, so maybe it was okay after all. But I had more head pain in the hour of "sleep" than I did before I laid back down to bed - NOT FAIR!

I did get all my laundry done last night. So tonight it is time to pack, buy and prepare food. And hopefully get to bed at a decent time...
