Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

sick daddy

The second part of my conversation with my mom didn't go so well.

They found a tumor in my dad's esophagus during the endoscopy. They took some for sections, so we don't know what we're dealing with yet.

But it's still enough to bum me out.

So I started working in retail to make money. I worked for this manager before going to college, so he was happy to have me back, and offered me a very good salary (for retail).

Since my dad was going in for his scopes to figure out the source of the bleeding, I asked my mom to call me at the store since phones aren't allowed. Around 10:30, she calls.

"Did you ever apply to ______?"

"Yeah, like back in December," figuring it was something she was looking at in a business section as a possible place to apply for work.

"They called for you this morning and left a message."

Holy crap! This is the most positive progess I've made since I started looking. I jotted down the name and number, and vowed to call back during my lunch break.

I'm glad I called. She was a very nice person. She listened to my interests and passions. She listened to my reasons for leaving. She told me about the company and I was about to drool. It's a small company with only 10 lab workers. They are looking for someone to work for them for a "long time". My 8 years in the same lab works in my advantage in this case.

She said I sounded like a good candidate for the position. It's more chemistry and less biology, but even wtih my chemistry minor, I'm qualified enough (according to her). She already had my resume, but asked me to send it to her personal email address. She'll forward it to the "hiring board" and they'll ask me for a formal interview.

It'll still be at least a month before I'd hear back from them if I get it. So I'll keep working retail (and she knows that's what I'm doing). The best part is that the lab is very close to where I'm working right now.
