Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Try thinking before you speak

There's been a couple things that I've heard on NPR today that have me grinding my teeth in frustration.

The first was the husband of a woman who died on the 97th floor of Tower 1. He wanted Moussaoui to be executed:

"He's a murderer."

While he was found partially responsible for the events of 9/11, he actually did not kill anyone. Doesn't mean that he wouldn't if he had the means....but he didn't actually kill anyone (that we know of).

Another was about a MinuteMan support rally. People at the rally chanted:

"Remember 9/11 - Close the borders!"

Didn't the men that hijacked the planes come in via other methods (like student visas)? I've heard from Border Patrol agents that they do intercept men from the middle east on the Mexico-Arizona border, but they have not had a role in 9/11. I listened to an audiobook from Tom Clancy "Teeth of the Dragon", in which the men that executed a terrorist attack in multiple cities got into this country from Mexico. But get the facts straight - 9/11 men did not come across the border; they arrived on a plane (ironic isn't it?).

Finally (this is a real doozy). I was reading an article of a Mexican teenager trying to make it across the desert. With only two gallons of water... She was given a pamphlet of how to survive in the desert:

If you're lost and in trouble, light a fire to signal help

They're currently fighting a wildfire set by one of these lost wetbacks. And I still remember the Chedaski fire was set by a lost hiker and was fanned out of control by the rescue chopper.

Sheriff Joe to the rescue (again)

Well Sherriff Joe is getting in the national news yet again.

This time - having his county deputies now patrol the county's "backroads" to grab illegal immigrants as they travel to Phoenix to go to other cities.

Liberal pussy opinion

How would it look in the Muslim world if an American jury decided to execute Moussaoui? Something along the lines of the Christians slaughtering yet another Muslim.

I don't envy this jury. This must have been a very hard decision when you have family members on both sides of the case pleading their view as to wether or not Moussaoui should live or die.

I think it's better to have Moussaoui rot in jail and quietly die of a heart attack. He isn't going to dwell on what he did wrong, but he won't be allowed to contact anyone to share his views either. Sure, I'm annoyed that part of my federal tax dollars will pay for his meals and care for a long time. But it's better than giving him any further chances to express his views is well worth it.

Granted, if he was put on a military trial, the media wouldn't be allowed to cover his loud expressions of his views. But the hidden nature of such a trial would never had been seen as credible.

Speaking of "hidden terrorists", what ever happened to Kahlied Shaik-Mohammed? The military is keeping him quietly tucked away somewhere. Is he ever going to be put on trial? Probably not. And he was a master planner of the terrorists attacks.
