Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Lazy Sunday

I spend a good portion of my weekend just recovering and getting ready for Monday. Having to go in and tend to experiments doesn't help, but hey, work is work.

I tried a recipe for gluten-free pumpkin cookies. I made pumpkin cookies (with and without chocolate chip cookies) that were a big hit over the holidays. I am hoping that I can find a decent substitute so I can bring the cookies (this time gluten-free) and people will still eat them. The unbaked batter was terrible (gritty). The cookies fresh off the sheet weren't too terrible. The true test are cookies that are cooled - these aren't too bad (but I don't expect these to fly off the desert plate).

I still think I'll post the recipe - soon.

It's cloudy today, and the wind picked up while I was working in the lab this AM. I see someone flying a kit in the direction of the Catalina Mountains - why not there aren't that many days where you can out there.

In regards to my war with the cat barrier, Adira managed to still sneak around it. I gave up, and tore it down. When I got back from work, I opened the patio door. Adira bounded out, and she jumped on the rail like she was going to go on the ledge. But she surprised me by turning around and jumping back on the porch. So I give up - pretend like it's no big deal and she won't leave? (I personally think that the wind was a distraction - neither of them are on the porch right now.)

The University of Arizona football team lost last night a game they should have. Stoops will have to do more singing and dancing to keep his job at this rate.

Finally, the Tucson-based Arizona Daily Star opened a "design the state quarter" contest. I'm not quite sure why, but this one amused me:
