Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

bad kitty mommy

Yes, I said earlier that the fluff and furr monster are going to the vet. I chose a cat only clinic a couple miles away. I had copies of my cats prior history with the vet that was by my other address, but now is too far away.

The interesting part is that I have only one kennel. This is large part because I assumed that if I had a sick cat, only one would be sick and I can put that critter in the kennel and go running off to the vet.

I'm thinking Adira will go in the kennel since she has the ability to bolt. Magnum just sits there and looks like a deer in the headlights. I grabbed a pillowcase in case things changed.

Set the kennel out this morning. Adria actually goes in it! I think she saw it as a safe place to not have Magnum whumping on her.

Put the kennel with Adira in it in the car. She's howling bloody murder the entire way. Run back to the apartment to get Magnum. He's content to sit on my lap as I drive.

Of course, there's a big tree hiding the sign to the cat hospital. So I drove past a few times before I found it.

This is a pre-op check for declawing. Magnum tips the scales at 16 pounds! But he's lost a whole pound in a couple years since his last vet visit. Adira is a hefty 11 pounds, which is a lot for a small cat frame. But she's under the magic 12 pound cut-off, so that saves me 10 bucks on her surgery.

Magnum also needed bloodwork since he's old and fat. He also has a broken tooth from a high jump off something. But that's for another day.

Got scheduled for their declawing. Paid for the bloodwork (a whopping $125), and struggled to get both monsters home.

Eleven scratches on my arms - 0 dollars
New change of clothes - 0 dollars
Pre-Op bloodwork - 125 dollars

Seeing the relief on their faces when they were home - priceless

Yes, I feel bad about getting them declawed. They have scratching posts, but don't use them. Magnum uses my couch, and Adira uses the carpet. That will get me evicted from my new arrangement. Plus my folks 15 year old dog cannot defend himself anymore and is liable to get scratches on his face - another excuse for eviction. They are strictly indoor critters, and we'll all have to learn to live with it.

Yes, I'll be buying a second kennel for the big moving date. Magnum kinda liked to crawl under my legs near the pedals - which would not be good.

is this normal?

*ugh* Definately a hit and run with this cold I caught.

Friday morning, I was feeling good. About an hour after lunch, I realized I had a sore throat and a burning nose. I left an hour early. Hit the sack early.

Saturday AM, I could migrate from bed to couch. Holding kleenexes in my hand as if it were a lifeline. Felt stuffy in the ears as well. But the headache put the cherry on the sundae. It wasn't on my "usual" pain level, but it was enough to be annoying. The worst part was the position of my head that helped the congestion run out my nose made the headache worse. Went to bed early that night.

Sunday, I felt a bit better. A former neighbor of mine keeps calling, leaving messages of "call me". But it's a blocked number - which is why I don't answer it. Then she doesn't leave a number in the message. Too many other things to worry about like getting better. Went to bed early again.

Monday, I feel a bit more human than Sunday. Can't just go back to bed since the kitties have to be taken to the vet. Start coffee, and hop in the shower. I always clean out my ears after a shower because I think that the steam helps clean them out better. Not surpised that there's a lot of gunk on the q-tips since I felt the congestion in my ears.

But the left ear looked brownish-orange. Almost as if it's been tinted with red. So I go for a gentle second pass. Yup, this one has blood on it. Not a lot, but enough for CSI to do DNA testing on it.

I don't think that's normal.
