Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

more inconviences (airport ramblings)

Boyfriend hates flying these days. He will wear Tevas, and always has to take them off to be screened. This annoys him to no end.

Lucky for him his next job will be in San Diego. The new flight restrictions are going to further piss him off.

Not to mention it's going to piss off the local food and drink places inside our airline terminals.

I remember that last summer we were in Chicago Midway waiting for our flight to Phoenix. My sister and "cousin" decided that the ice cream milkshakes at the Baskin' Robbins(?) in the terminal was a great idea. I agreed to sit with baby and bags and they went off. They came back, and I took a sip of my sisters. It was so good that I decided I had to have one too. Even though I have to get separately screened, I left the terminal, got my shake, and went through the screening again.

In the Phoenix airport, it's our tradition to get coffee and snack at Paradise Bakery on your way to the security screening to your gate at Terminal 4. I still get the coffee, but have someone get me the coffee since it's just torture for me to be near all those yummy things that I can't have.

Can't do that today.

Yes, some of those food and drink places sell to those INSIDE the gate areas. But it's still going to hurt business inside the terminal if you can't take it with you to the screening areas.

I don't normally carry liquids on my carry on bags. The exception is when I do my weekend trips to San Diego because I fit everything I need in a carry on bag. So then I'm screwed, and will have to check my bag. Boyfriend hates having to take Tevas off at the screening, but will always check his weekend bag, which is a longer wait time after getting off the plane to get your bag - that I don't get.

NPR did a little bit about how they've been trying to develop a rapid detection system for screening our bottles of shampoo to make sure they are shampoo. Yet it'd have to distinguish from true explosive materials versus things like a bottle of wine or spirits (which is somewhat flammable if exposed to open flame).

Based on the details I'm hearing, these guys are smart. Since they're allowing baby formula and liquid prescriptions, they could try and package their explosive canisters with a prescription label or formula label.
