Record rain

The rain we got Monday morning (a mere 1.16" at the University) was enough to break the desert.

Since the soil here is so hard, the massive amount of rain we got the month of July (5.61" at the airport) just runs to the lowest point.

It starts up Mount Lemmon, pours down Sabino Canyon, then along several washes such as the Rilltio and Pantano. The Rillito then dumps into the Santa Cruz which runs along Marana (with the rainfall from the Tucson mountains).

This is one of my favorite pictures. I laugh more at it because they brought in extra pumps on Friday to empty that underpass because the built-in pumps were clogged with debris. All that hard work, and there's more water than ever before.

Sabino Canyon got a big body slam with the run-off. The main road is only accessible for around the first mile because of the runoff that went over the road, displacing the concrete picnic tables in its path.

Now we have to cross our fingers and hope that the bridges are still intact. For now, just the one on I-10 is open. Not that I care that much since I don't live on that side of town.
