Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

too much of a good thing

Going gluten-free, I accepted that there were a few things I would live without. I came to peace knowing that I'd never have another beer again. Or pretzels. Or cereal you can find in the store. Or rice crispy treats.

You're beginning to get the idea.

Now gluten-free is getting more mainstream. The gluten-free pretzels from Glutino first found in speciality markets are now seen in stores like Wild Oats, and Von's in San Diego. Two types of gluten-free beer found in San Diego means that someday I might find it in AZ also. General Mills changed their formulas to make about a half dozen cereals to be gluten-free. Environkids makes cereal gluten-free, and rice krispy bars that are yummy.

Which is getting to be too much of a good thing. Beer is empty calories. Pretzels are like the potato chips - can't have just one. General Mills is adding malt to some of their once gluten-free cereals, so those will no longer be gluten-free. The rice krispy treats need to rationed, or I'll eat a couple before I know what happened.

So for example, tonight was beer and pretzels. Quite a normal "guy" thing to do. But not if you're a girl trying to limit their calories to fit back into her jeans.
