Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Yes, I said the "b" word

And yes, he knows.

We discussed it last weekend. He said that he had already been using the term "girlfriend" to his extended family. But around me it's "woman" (but that's mostly to annoy me). It's weird getting used to having a boyfriend when I haven't been had one for years. Saturday night, we're going to have dinner with my folks, boyfriend and his father, and the lovely people that arranged for us to meet.

If I were into fate and signs, I'd say the fact that his father and my father celebrate their birthdays within a week of one another means fate means for our families to have a reason to celebrate something together. Since I don't, it's a nice considence, and a great reason to meet at a restaurant and celebrate a couple birthdays.

But mostly I'm just glad for the chance to see my boyfriend again (it's still weird to say that). After this weekend, it probably won't be until the Thanksgiving (or the weekend before) when we can meet because of his upcoming job. But I knew this is the way it is with his job, but it still sucks.

I honestly thought that long distance relationships couldn't work. But perhaps it was a great way to talk myself into easing back into the realtionship pool (well, if it won't be as serious if it's a long distance relationship). With internet connectivity, and messenging software, we spend hours a night getting to know one another better by talking about things. It still doesn't replace real voices, so we're working on the chat thing.

When he has to go out of state for work, we're stuck trading emails back and forth because he's using company laptops for connectivity (and obviously doesn't want his company finding evidence of personal use). It's slower than messenger software, but it can work.

We do talk on our cell phones, but usually can't hang up for almost an hour. Needless to say, we don't do this often or it'd eat our available minutes like a sumo wrestler in an all you can eat buffet.

I lost the arguement "it won't be as serious if it's long distance". I could very easily get serious about him, and I'm pretty sure he feels the same way back. So now I need to figure out how to make this work without going crazy (and for now, I'm not up and ready to move to San Diego because of him).
