Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

brain zapping

When fiance and I went to Seattle, I had to come to a decision. It took me forever to get special screening at Sky Harbor. Lucky for us, we had just enough time for TSA to produce a female screener to get me through. At least I had my wonderful fiance was able to grab my carry on bag so it wasn't just sitting there because they wouldn't let me reclaim it until after screening.

After that was all done, I said "Screw going through that again, I'm going to chance it coming back. We'll see what happens."

After our lovely, chilly, whirlwind trip to Seattle, we walked through the line to go through the x-ray. I agreed I would play dumb and produce my medical ID card if it went off.

My turn comes, and I hold my breath and take a couple steps.

And nothing happens.

So we walk to a in-terminal restaurant for breakfast since we were dropped off a bit early. I grab my remote and check to see if it turned off my MCS. All green lights, so all systems are a go.

So whatever. We'll see if I ever set off the scanners.

Then I went to the grocery store a couple days ago. Ran into my gram, but did grab some stuff I needed to make a birthday cheesecake. In leaving the store, a lady next to me set off the alarm to deter shoplifting. They let me go, and eventually let her go. Drive home, and a few minutes later, I bent my head down in just a way and

*wham!* Sharp radiating pains start stabbing my face. So I go looking for my remote since I had just removed it from my purse due to lack of space. Trying to turn up the power, and there's this series of beeps. Sure enough, it was trying to tell me you can't change the settings when it's not even on.

Dang. TSA couldn't touch me, but a grocery store could short out my MCS to cause it to turn off.

It was a validation to me that I went through the whole brain surgery thing for something that wasn't a placebo effect. Since I was not expecting it to be turned off, and the pain came back within minutes. I still don't feel anything when I turn the device back on - just cessation of the pain.

I was also surprised that while I got the white hot zingers of pain, it wasn't that bad. Though I suppose a few days of that would make me feel differently.
