Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

107 - a joke

Is it Tuesday yet?

My folks turned on the local news, so naturally we get the local politics commericals.

Supporters of Proposition 107 almost made me hurl. If 107 passes, benefits for partners will go away by putting in stone that it's "one man, one woman". Currently, the Universities offer benefits to "domestic partners" wether they're a same sex couple, or a man and woman that are not married. They allowed this because they have to compete for good faculty within the Pacific 10 schools.

Supporters of 107 basically said these states are now saying it's okay for gay marriage (they cited New Jersey, but they didn't say gay marriage is okay). Arizona needs to protect marriage by saying "one man, one woman". "It's how we raise our children," (yes, they actually said that).

And half of married one man, one woman relationships end in divorce. I'm fortunate that my folks are still married, and I grew up with both happy and healthy.

Even if I wasn't with my boyfriend, I think that what goes on behind closed doors is not my business. If two men or two women make each other happy, then good for them. They don't try and make me start loving women that way, and they should have the same rights as "domestic partners" of unmarried couples.

Basically, if we don't pass 107, then things will stay the same. The state supporting gay marriage isn't going to happen for a long while, but domestic partners can have the benefits offered to their "life mate". If 107 passes, those benefits will go away, only acknowledging only licensed marriages between one man and one woman.

The supporters of 107 are basically forcing their "one man, one woman" belief on me. Why is it right? Because that's how most of us were raised? Because it says so in the bible?

If you believe that it's because of the bible, then I'll try not to vent too much. But if you believe so much in that book, then can you acknowledge that it's a book that has changed over the centuries, and it was a council of MEN that decided what the bible should include and what should be thrown out?
