Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Vodka kind of day

So today's the big day. I've been dreading it for weeks.

Kitties at the vet for front declaw.

I had to bring them in at 8 this morning. I normally show up for work just after 7, so I was hoping I could sleep in a bit. Adira starting howling for food around 5 this morning, so sleeping in wasn't an option.

Didn't bother making the bed since I wouldn't have to worry about kitties getting in between the sheets.

Lagged around a bit until it got to around 7:40. Made a trip to the car to put laptop and purse in car.

Then it was time to get the kitties in their carriers. I left both carriers open for weeks. Adira even put one of her fur mousies in one of them. I thought it'd be a breeze to get them back in them.

Nope.

As soon as I grabbed the first animal in sight (Magnum), he kicked, screamed, and such. He stuck his back legs along the sides of the carrier, making it impossible to get him in. In all the struggling, he landed a deep swipe at my wrist.

Both kitties are snarling, growling, hissing monsters. And I have to get them in their carriers. This is going to be fun.

After several near misses, I got my hands on Adira. With some finageling, she was secure in her carrier. Not a happy camper, but in the carrier.

My full attention is on Magnum. He ducks and runs under the bed. If my hand got within swiping distance, he took a swipe at it. When blood started running down my left finger from a swipe, I get out the mean old water bottle. Several direct hits, and he's not budging. Every time I got him towards one side of the bed, he would retreat to the middle, unreachable part of the bed.

Where's a second pair of hands when I need them?

Finally after several jabs of a binder, Magnum ran into the closet. Grabbed the carrier, and the three of us were shut in. Eventually, he got himself cornered, and in the carrier.

Figured the smartest thing to do was put Magnum in the back seat, and Adira in the front seat. Morning traffic just before 8 sucks, and it took me 8 minutes to get to the cat hospital. Got there, and neither kitty is howling, hissing, or anything. I guess they resigned themselves to their fate. Signed the papers, and got a kleenex for my still bleeding wrist. Then the girl came and took them both away.

I had to change my phone wallpaper from Adira in my Tevas to a pretty flowering cactus I saw on a hike. No word yet, but I'm hoping everything turned out okay. Tonight I have to put back my bedroom from the mess I made moving things around to get at Magnum.

Wish I could have some vodka now to dull the pain.
