It's not totally my fault
Yes, the phenolic compound was in my hand before it hit the floor. Since this is such a caustic chemical, the bottle didn't break. But the plastic top shattered, and thus the phenol hit the floor.
But in my defense, it slipped. It had been in a wet ice bucket until the incident occured. Combined with the humidity, there was enough moisture to cause it to slip from a running back's hands.
Just ran into a vendor, and he was complaining about the humidity - and he lives in San Diego!
But the result of the incident still sucked. The common lab will smell phenolic for a while. Risk Management wants me to call poision control since I had the most exposure to the fumes. Probably to cover their butts if I get sick.
Does it count if you felt like crap before the incident?
