Life of a former witch

I've outgrown my wicked witch of the west ways. Reflections of life afterwards, living in the desert with two cats, friends, family, and my hot and cold love life.

Morning roundup

Oh my gosh, there's so much good news today. So here's a brief summary of some of the interesting stuff that's going on:

Ding dong, the terrorist is dead. Though I've come to think of him more as a thug than a terrorist mastermind. It'll be interesting to try and find out how many women will name their sons Abu in honor of Zarqawi. Unlike Osama, I don't see Zarqawi having done a lot of good for people.

In lighter news, I came across the story of one man's qwest to have someone do the right thing. I agree with his logic, I'd either turn a found cell phone to a store of the provider (if it's close), leave a voicemail on that phone to come and claim it, or turn it into a proper lost and found (if available). I lost my pager once at the VA (shows how long it's been since I've lost something). I left my lab number on the pager, and got a call back that he had the pager and how to find him. I then recovered my pager. These people are clueless about the technology, but also have grammar issues. No wonder they say email and IM is leading to the downfall of proper language skills. But it sure is funny to read.

The Arizona Republic is reporting that the day labor center in Phoenix will have to close in August due to lack of funding. I won't link the article because it requires information. Among the groups pulling their funds is Chicanos Por La Causa. I understand the justification for having a day labor center. It's a safe place to introduce employers and laborers. However, it's not practical. Businesses won't go there because then it's like holding up a big sign "we hire illegals!" I wonder why the Border Patrol never bothered to visit that place and do a roundup - it's such a perfect target! I don't know a good solution to the day labor issue except for the fact that we shouldn't be helping them period. A center such as the one in Phoenix is nothing more than a form of guest worker for people that broke the law. The border patrol should raid the place before it closes and deport the asses of those there.
